Eradicating fistula… one cuppa at a time!

2019 saw the Hamlin community embrace the High Tea for Hamlin initiative in a brand new way with the introduction of the Hamlin Sister Circle. Hamlin supporters devised engaging fundraising initiatives and created incredible high tea experiences; bringing colleagues, friends and family together for one cause: eradicating obstetric fistula, forever.

Making a difference over tea and cupcakes

For many High Tea for Hamlin hosts, this year was the second or third time they hosted a high tea in support of realising Dr Catherine Hamlin‘s dream of a fistula-free Ethiopia; for Hamlin Champion Jen, this year was the fifth time she has hosted a High Tea for Hamlin event!

On a glorious spring afternoon, Jen hosted friends and family for a marvellous high tea. Featuring beautiful cupcakes, macaroons and generous guests, the event was a fantastic success. This year, Jen’s High Tea for Hamlin event featured beautiful blackboard art and an impressive raffle – featuring five hours of gardening services from Jen’s son!

Sisterhood at its finest

This year saw the creation of the Hamlin Sister Circle – a community of friends, sisters, mothers and daughters connecting over a cup of tea in support of their sisters in Ethiopia. Through solidarity and love, Hamlin supporters were able to fundraise and raise awareness for women suffering from fistula.

The Hamlin Sister Circle spread far and wide, and included incredible Australian women dedicated to supporting their fellow sisters. Hamlin Sister Circle Ambassadors Natalie Imbruglia, Amanda Keller, Maeve O’Meara and Michelle Bridges lent their voices in support of Catherine and the Hamlin Fistula Ethiopia team’s work in caring for the most vulnerable women in Ethiopian society.

We wanted to take the opportunity to say thank you to all of the amazing Hamlin supporters who organised or contributed to a High Tea for Hamlin event this year. Together, you raised $40,000 – an incredible feat!
