Hamlin surgeons in specialist fellowship program

This year, Hamlin Fistula Ethiopia’s surgical excellence was recognised through a critical partnership established to launch a specialist fellowship program in Urogynecology.

The Fellowship program is being conducted in collaboration with the Mekele University College of Health Sciences, St. Paul’s Hospital Millennium Medical College and the Worldwide Fistula Fund.

A urogynecologist is a physician who has completed medical school and a four-year residency in obstetrics and gynecology, and then gone on to receive additional, highly specialised training in surgical and non-surgical treatment of pelvic floor disorders.

The fellowship program is the first ever in Africa and is intended to provide highly specialised care to women with complex urogynecologic disorders including obstetric fistula cases.

Three Hamlin surgeons, including the medical Director Dr Fekade Ayenachew, are among the first fellowship intake.
