Holistic care at Hamlin Fistula Ethiopia

Meet Zenebe Mesfin, our hospital Chaplain. Zenebe is a member of Hamlin Fistula Ethiopia’s Rehabilitation and Reintegration team who work to help patients rebuild their confidence and return to their communities well equipped to start their lives anew.

Zenebe and the team have developed a comprehensive program of patient care that they are constantly refining and improving. Their program includes patient profiling, counselling, chaplaincy, adult learning and reintegration activities.

Each patient is guided through her healing journey by caring, skilled professionals, whether she is in hospital for a few weeks or several months.

On admission, a plan for psychological care is tailored to each patient’s individual needs. During a patient’s hospital stay, she might spend time with Zenebe for spiritual guidance or with a psychologist or social worker for mental health support.

The team is based at the Addis Ababa Fistula Hospital and this year the program is being expanded to the five regional hospitals.

Not only does Zenebe look after the spiritual needs of the patients, he is on hand to support our staff too. He is a well-loved member of the Hamlin family.
