Our new board member – Dr Alison Morgan

The work of HFE has been an inspiration to me since I was a girl, and my first overseas trip was to the hospital in Addis Ababa in 1982 – when I was a medical student.

My career was influenced by the work of my aunt Catherine Hamlin and I research maternal health in low income settings as part of my work at the University of Melbourne.

I have just returned from a visit to the fistula hospital and spent time with the team as well as many lovely afternoon teas with Catherine.

The growth of the work over the last forty years, especially the midwifery training, to prevent fistula occurring in the first place, is great to see. Best of all, this expansion has never ever compromised the amazing love and quality of care that characterises the treatment each fistula patient receives.
