Thank you for your compassion this year

This year marked the 60th anniversary of Dr Catherine Hamlin’s work for the world’s most marginalised women. There are many measures of her extraordinary impact over the past six decades. The most important is the declining rate of obstetric fistula in Ethiopia. As one of the oldest and most experienced fistula treatment centres, we know we have a huge task ahead to eradicate fistula but it is possible. This purpose is championed by you, our supporters. Thank you.

I would also like to thank those of you who took the time to complete our first ever supporter survey this year. Your feedback will help shape our future communications to you. We have included some of the survey results in this newsletter. We also received hundreds of wonderful comments about Catherine and Hamlin Fistula Ethiopia. Thank you for your compassion, love and trust in us. Like you, we are all very proud to be part of this mission.

Thank you message from our Board of Directors

2019 has been an important milestone for the Catherine Hamlin Fistula Foundation and the work of Hamlin Fistula Ethiopia.  Celebrating 60 years since Reg and Catherine Hamlin embarked on their life’s work to support women suffering from childbirth injuries, their extraordinary contribution is built on the wonderful support of thousands of donors.  Without you, the work of the Hamlin Fistula Ethiopia team in Ethiopia would not be possible. With your help, our support and contribution to Ethiopia has increased year on year and in 2019, more than 1,000 women had their fistula injuries treated and their lives and dignity restored. The ongoing commitment you show to carrying on Catherine’s work is inspiring. Thank you!

In 2020 we will remain focused on treating fistula injuries and helping women to thrive post surgery. Scaling up women’s access to skilled birth attendants also demands our ongoing support.

Looking to the future, Catherine’s vision for a fistula free Ethiopia is what motivates and inspires us. Together with my fellow Directors, we are committed to ensuring that your funds are well spent and make a lasting contribution to eradicate fistula forever.
