Spreading the Hamlin story 

Every time a High Tea for Hamlin is held, more people find out about the important work of Dr Catherine Hamlin and her team in Ethiopia. Supporters come together for a cup of tea, a piece of cake and the chance to be a part of something life changing.

Louise and Marg’s High Tea for Hamlin 

Last year, Louise and Marg, two friends from rural NSW, decided to host a High Tea for Hamlin. What started off as a small afternoon tea quickly became a large event. Seventy women braved the wind and rain to come to their High Tea and support the work of Hamlin Fistula Ethiopia.

Louise and Marg worked hard to give their High Tea a homely Hamlin feel. They adorned the house with handmade bunting, crocheted rugs and cushions.

“Our lovely pharmacist Lisa was our guest speaker and gave us a most interesting talk on the debilitating obstetric fistula and of all the wonderful work Catherine Hamlin and her late husband have achieved to help our less fortunate sisters in Ethiopia.” – Marg

Games, games, games…

“During the afternoon we played two games, one was to taste a pumpkin soup we had made and to guess the ingredients, and the other was to see how many words you could make out of ‘Hamlin High Tea’. Both games added extra humour to the afternoon. We also were able to have a very successful raffle with people hearing of our cause, wishing to donate gifts.” – Marg

Three lives restored

With donations and a raffle on the day, Louise and Marg managed to raise $1800, enough to fund three life changing fistula surgeries. That’s three women whose lives can be restored thanks to this event.
